  • Flotsam

You're paddling a kayak six miles off the Florida coast when a sailfish bigger than you peels off with the fishing line at your rear. This is David Gauzens' day-to-day. A Miami native, Gauzens knows glitz—but he shuns it as part of a small, gritty band of kayak fishermen who forsake flashy boats for utilitarian pieces of plastic to pursue their passion. High seas, storms and even capsizing can’t deter him from exhausting encounters with prehistoric fish—and he learns in the process just how little he needs to be content.

Director and Producer: Kjell Redal

  • The Kayaker and The Angler

We’re not that different in the outdoors. Leland, a fly fisher, and Tyler Bradt, a whitewater kayaker, learn that even though they use rivers in totally different ways, they can come together to protect public lands.

Director: Alexandra Fuller
Producer: Stevie Meier

  • Calm And The Chaos

Kayak fishing is calm and seemingly simple—that is, until you hook a fish and it becomes controlled chaos. Whether you feel the child-like thrill of a tug on your line, or you are cheering on your buddy landing their catch, the fight to reel in a fish never gets old. Watch Dan Arbuckle and Matt Guthrie share their story, as they fight both fish and current while executing beautiful fly casts from their kayaks.

Director & Producer: Seth West

  • On The Edge

Winner of Best Kayaking Film 2023

Five women set out on an eight-day, 65-mile pack rafting journey deep in the wilderness of Montana. A trip inspired by self-growth, adventure and world-class westslope cutthroat trout fishing quickly evolves into a deeper exploration of how we are on the edge of a new climate era. The group begins to question what the future of conservation and ethical wilderness recreation will look like in a rapidly changing climate.

Director & Producer: Katie Falkenberg

  • Rods, Rolls and Reality on the Soča

Winner of Best Kayak Fishing Film 2024.
Swapping paddles for rods, this crew of kayakers attempts to learn how to put the hook in the right spot. Under the emerald waters of Slovenia's Soča River hides an endemic trout, creating both a classroom and a playground for misadventure.

Directors: Rok Rozman, Rožle Bregar
Producer: Leeway Collective

  • Lawai'a, A Family Fishing Fable

Hawaii means many things to many people. For Nick Wakida, his homeland of Maui is tied to community and that community is part of a larger family. Nick doesn't have the big boats and expensive gear to do the deep sea fishing the islands are known for, but his can-do attitude and a sea kayak enables him to fish the waters. Fishing for Nick is about more than reeling in a big one. It's about tapping into the cultural and spiritual history, and sharing his bounty with family and community.

Director: Jeff Thomas
Producer: Mat Jackson
